Zagreb, The capital of Croatia is placed lovely on the base of mountain Medvednica. It is been settled from Neolithic times, but in its present shape Zagreb emerged after union of Gric and Kaptol in 13th
century. In the upper old town of Zagreb one must go and see Kamenita Vrata (Stone Gate) flickering with candle lights - only one remaining of 4 old town gates from medieval times. Short walk and St. Marks
Square spreads with its many important buildings. St. Marks Church
from 13 century has a colorful roof tiles with Croatian, Dalmatian and Slavonian Coats of arms on the left and one
belong to city of Zagreb on the right side. When in that section of Zagreb places to visit are St. Catharine Curch, Jesuit
monastery, Sta. Clara monastery (all Beautiful examples of baroque architecture), mansion of
Zrinski, Orsic-Rauch, Ratkay and other Croatian noble families. St. Stephan
Cathedral on Kaptol is slender and impressive neo gothic building.
In the lower city of Zagreb or Down Town majority of buildings has 19th to early 20th century
flavor. Neo-Baroque National Theatre, museum of arts and Crafts, Croatian
Academy of art and Science and many, many others.
Unique arcade of Mirogoj (Zagreb graveyard) is one of the most beautiful park
cemetery in Europe.
Park setting called "green horseshoe" is good sample of high quality 19th century
planning of greenery in the urban surrounding.
Newer parts of Zagreb are across the sava river. Now days Zagreb
spreads itself horizontally and vertically.
Zagreb has many nice and good quality accommodations, numerous
attractions, pedestrian zone, long shopping street (Ilica) in the centre of the city,
